Former Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu fc defender Sibusiso Mabiliso has joined another club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after being a free agent for almost a year.
Despite having a promising career at a young age and also being called to represent the South African national team, Sibusiso Mabilisoʼs football career has not been convincing in the past few years.
The 25-year-old has been a free agent since January 2024 after Amazulu terminated his contract.
The player has now joined the Limpopo based side, Baroka fc, who are currently participating in the 2nd division in South Africa.
The club announced the signing of the left-back. They confirmed that he has signed a one-year contract with the Bakgaga ko Mphahlele side.
After the surprise departure of their head coach Morgan Mammila, Baroka fc are looking to turn things around the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they have been struggling since the league started.
When the league started, Baroka fc had the only aim, which was to gain a promotion to the top flight at the end of the season. Unfortunately, the club drew their first game of the competition and also lost the second game.
Failing to collect maximum points in the first two games at Baroka caused the club to press the panic button. They then called an emergency meeting with Morgan Mammila, that led to Mammila resigning few days later.
Baroka fc are now sitting in the 12th position after three games in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They will be hoping to turn things around this weekend and possibly close the gap with Milford united, who are sitting on top of the table with seven points.
SIBUSISO MABILISOʼS FOOTBALL CAREER
The Northwest born defender started his football career at the development team of Platinum Stars. He then signed his first professional contract with Amazulu.
The 25-year-old spent three years at the Durban based side before joining Kaizer Chiefs as a free-agent in July 2021.
Despite being only 22 years old at that time, Sibusiso Mabiliso felt he could make it to the starting lineup at Amakhosi. Unfortunately, things did not work out for the player.
The likes of Sifiso Hlanti, Reeve Frosler and Happy Mashiane made things difficult for Mabiliso at Kaizer Chiefs as they were preferred players in the left-back position.
He was then released a year later after making just nine appearances at Amakhosi. After parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs, Sibusiso Mabiliso decided to re-sign with Amazulu as the club decided to give him a second chance.
It came as a surprise when Amazulu announced the departure of the player at the beginning of 2024 as he was a good backup player since the club already had Riaan Hanamub.
Riaan Hanamub is the Namibian left-back who has been one of the best defenders in the Premier Soccer League in the past few years.
Should Baroka fc turn things around and gain a promotion to the top flight, that will surely work as an advantage for Sibusiso Mabiliso. The club has a great potential to gain promotion this season as they have a number of quality players including Siphelele Mthembu.
