Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed that the Ethiopian striker Abubeker Nasir has joined Supersport united ahead of the new season.

After defeating the newly arrived Marumo Gallants by 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon, Manqoba Mngqithi confirmed after the game that Mamelodi Sundowns have loaned out yet another player to their arch-rivals Supersport united.

When speaking to the media after the match, the high-flying Manqoba Mngqithi admitted that he is surprised by the media not reporting that Abubeker Nasir is no longer at Masandawana.

The South African born coach stated that they loaned out the player before the June transfer window was closed. This comes after Supersport united announced that their first choice striker Bradley Grobler suffered a long-term injury and will not be available for almost the whole season.

Supersport united tried to re-sign the Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa on yet another loan deal after losing Bradley Grobler, however, things did not materialize and were then linked with the Serbia striker Samir Nurkovic.

The former Kaizer Chiefs, Royal AM and TS Galaxy striker Samir Nurkovic was heavily linked with a move to Supersport united after deciding to part ways with TS Galaxy earlier this month. He is currently a free-agent and could still join any club of his choice, despite the June transfer window already closed.

Gavin Hunt signing the Ethiopian striker Abubeker Nasir is a major boost for the Tshwane side as they are currently lacking a lethal striker after the injury of Bradley Grobler.

The 24-year-old joined Mamelodi Sundowns from the Ethiopian giants Ethiopia Bunna two years ago for €250k fee. Unfortunately, things have not worked out for the Ethiopian international as he suffered a critical injury few months after joining Mamelodi Sundowns, where he clashed with the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane.

According to Transfermarkt, Abubeker Nasir has only managed to make 17 appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns since joining the club in July 2022.

In those 17 appearances, the 24-year-old striker has four goals for the Dstv Premiership champions. He has been unfortunate to be introduced mostly in the second half of the game by Mamelodi Sundowns coaches.

ABUBEKER NASIRʼS EARLY LIFE AND FOOTBALL CAREER

Abubeker Nasir was born on the 23rd of February 2000. He is originally from Addis Ababa, a place that is located in Ethiopia. That is where the player grew up and started playing football at the young age.

He was then heavily linked with Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. The Chloorkop based side were the club who managed to win the race after hosting the player on trials back in January 2022.

After failing meet the expectations at Mamelodi Sundowns, Abubeker Nasir has seen his market value drop from €650k to €350k in just one year. That is mainly caused by the lack of game-time.

He will however have a chance to revive his football career under Gavin Hunt and will surely walk straight to the starting lineup as Supersport united are yet to score a single goal this season in the Betway Premiership.
