Latest reports have revealed that the former Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg united goalkeeper Richard Ofori has reached an agreement with Amazulu ahead of the new season.
According to the latest reports, Richard Ofori is set to join Amazulu fc after parting ways with Orlando Pirates last season.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper was one of the key players who were released by the Buccaneers at the end of last season along with the likes of Kermit Erasmus, Thabang Monare, Fortune Makaringe and Vincent Pule.
At the age of 30, Amazulu believes Richard Ofori still has a lot to offer in the field and will bring competition to the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Veli Mothwa.
Richard Ofori will make a return to KwaZulu-Natal as he previously played for Maritzburg united (now known as Durban City fc) before joining Orlando Pirates few years ago.
Apart from Veli Mothwa, Amazulu fc already has Olwethu Mzimela and Andile Mbanjwa in the goalkeeper department. Richard Ofori will become the 4th goalkeeper at the club, giving the Spanish born coach Pablo Franco more competition.
Things have not been going well for Veli Mothwa, both at Amazulu fc and also in the Bafana Bafana recently, which has made things a little bit difficult for Amazulu fc especially.
RICHARD OFORIʼS EARLY LIFE
Richard Ofori was born and raised at Accra, a place that is located in Ghana. He will be celebrating his 31st birthday at the beginning of November as he was born on the 3rd of November 1993.
He decided to join the JDR Consulting as he wanted the best agency team and that obviously worked for him over the years.
His highest market value was €1 Million, that was when he was still at Orlando Pirates.
RICHARD OFORIʼS FOOTBALL CAREER
The Ghanaian goalkeeper started his football career at the Ghanaian side, Wa All Stars, back in 2012. He spent five years at the Ghanaian side before arriving in South Africa.
Richard Ofori joined the KwaZulu-Natal based side, Maritzburg united, back in July 2017. He played a crucial role in making sure that the City Of Choice remain in the top fight, along with the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu, Fortune Makaringe and Judas Moseamedi.
Becoming one of the top players at Maritzburg united played a huge role in the player’s career as he was targeted by a number of clubs. He ended up joining Orlando Pirates and also become one of the top paid players at the club.
The player joined Orlando Pirates back in 2020, which was a huge relief for the club and supporters as they struggling in the goalkeeper department.
Richard Ofori started in more than 20 games on his debut season at Orlando Pirates and also had the chance to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup. Unfortunately, he only made two appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup as they were early eliminated in the tournament.
The arrival of Sipho Chaine at Orlando Pirates made things a little bit difficult for Richard Ofori as he gave him a tough competition in the starting lineup and indeed the player ended up winning the coach’s heart, leaving Ofori in the dark.
He was then released at the end of the season and is now set to start a new chapter at Usuthu.
